WOMEN - Sometimes, you just make us confused…

Sometimes and so many times while trying to understand women, men are made even more confused. But that’s okay, we are just men and we can’t be sure until the woman is. So a man chooses to love the woman simply for who she is yet this too sparks another spiral of questions. A man cannot really be sure that he loves her the way she wants to be loved, so he just tries to love her, as much as he can, so many times making him vulnerable, vulnerable in many a way and men fear vulnerability.

They will hide it in masculinity, career, sport, drink, power, money, friends and sometimes in drugs, addiction or even in women again. And despite that, they’ll appear tough like Schwarzenegger outside, yet really vulnerable inside.

So the woman actually becomes the centre piece of everything. Some men will say, “I trust no one but my mother,” but hey, mother is a woman too. Another says, “…had it not been for my daughter…I wouldn’t have ‘stayed’…” but daughter too is woman. And the single man might say, it’s my sister, aunt or niece but only to realize they too are women.

And gradually but perhaps more consistently, I am helpless in asking, what is it in WOMEN that makes them who they really are? I am quite certain that I will not get conclusive answers but for the fulfilment it comes with, the sincere search to understand true womanhood surely continues.

Yet while a men tries to discover who a woman really is;

My world stops a while today. My world stops to celebrate true womanhood. I stop to say thank you mothers, for not only bringing life to this world but for tireless days, selfless moments, the hard work and determination to make home fortress for everyone. Thank you.

But we also stop to say sorry, for the ills men have committed to womanhood, it is in your rising again and forgiving that makes you great.

My world stops to say thank you, to wives for building homes and girlfriends for making the future full of hope and worth waiting, for. Thank you sisters for standing by and thank you aunties for the extra hand that reached places mother couldn’t. Thank you daughters and nieces for reflecting the true promise and fulfilment of life; the fragrance, innocence and beauty of life come alive in a simple look into your eyes.

A mystery behind women will always remain but true womanhood is not just a gender issue. It is not intuition or wit in women. It is the self-determination to be, the inner knowledge, awareness and self-realization. It is the focus and discovery of her purpose on earth. It is that self-assurance and knowledge that despite all that, she is desired. It is that quiet and certain resilience, inner beauty and compassion propelled towards building a legacy for her family and children and to meet the ever increasing needs in the community. It is the way you stretch your hand to reach out to that vulnerable child around you and the time you consciously devote to guiding and mentoring those that are looking up to you every day of your life. It is your character. Your ability to heal and rise again after you have literally been stepped on and left for unwanted, surely makes you the woman that you and today. That is true womanhood and I celebrate you.

Happy women’s day, you are not just one in a million; you are one in a lifetime.
